NEEDLES HIGHWAY
EXPERIENCE NEEDLES HIGHWAY WITH DAVE'S GUIDED TOURS.
The northern 14 miles of South Dakota Highway 87 is known as Needles Highway. Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota this scenic stretch of National Scenic Byway invites visitors to enjoy its twists and turns, narrow tunnels, granite spires and awesome views.
Appropriately named after the granite "needle" towers that the highway navigates around, this trail promises some speculator views and a few surprises. Plan on snapping lots of photos along the drive and stopping at a few key lookouts.
In addition to our full day Parks & MonumentS Tours we are now offering a two-hour early morning Needles Highway Tour starting at 6AM.

The Needles Highway is also part of the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway and sections of highway 87 are also part of the Custer State Park's Wildlife Loop. All of which are highly recommended and part of our Parks and Monuments Day Tour. If you are looking for all the best places to go, make sure to reach out to Dave and take the tour.
In addition to the panoramic views you experience, the highway goes through Creek Tunnel and Needles Eye Tunnel. Remember to pull in your RV mirrors, inch forward and don't scratch the paint on the rental. The Needles Eye Tunnel is one-car only and makes for a good story.
We encourage you to make the most of your time in the Black Hills with one of our tours but if you are planning to go it alone, remember that access to the Needles Highway requires a Custer State Park entrance license and don't plan on going during the winter. The highway is closed for the winter season each year.
